The Horgelus Vineyard is situated on the sunny hillsides of Gascony. This region, renowned for centuries thanks to its Armagnac, now reveals itself as one of the most promising French Appellations due to the increasing quality of its local wines. This conversion started in the 1980’s, becoming truly pronounced in the 1990’s with the production of fresh and aromatic white wines. Today large numbers of people are attracted to and surprised by the red and rosé wines. This fabulous range of products reflects the richness of the land, which for a long time was consecrated to the production of the most noble of French “eau de vie” : Armagnac.
Horgelus was created in 1978 by Joseph LE MENN. Breton by origin, he was attracted by the charm of the South West, its gastronomy and its art of living. Now, this property which covers 90 hectares of vineyard, also comprises over 30 hectares of woods and meadows.
The Vineyard is run now by Yoan LE MENN, his son. Yoan is from the young generation of oenologues who know perfectly how to combine modernity and experience. The biggest task is concerned with the preservation of the aroma by limiting, to the maximum, all forms of oxidation of the “must” and the wines. For this reason the grapes are harvested early in the morning – from 3am to 11 am – in order to take advantage of the coolness. On the other hand the carbon dioxide from the alcoholic fermentation is recuperated to protect the newly pressed juice. From the grape to the bottling process, everything is designed to preserve fully the fruity flavours and freshness of our wines.
Fruity flavours and freshness form the signature of Horgelus wines : every day wines and festive wines accessible to all.
